    The Computer Center provides students and personnel with e-mail accounts. All users are assigned an e-mail address in the form of name.lastname@boun.edu.tr

    How can I obtain an e-mail account?
    E-mail (name.lastname@boun.edu.tr) accounts may be obtained from the South and North campus laboratories during weekdays between the hours 9:00 - 12:00 and 14:00 - 17:00. 

    Are there rules regarding to the use of my e-mail account?
    You must change your password upon the first time you obtain your e-mail account. Responsibility to change this password frequently lies with the user. It is also important to clean your mailbox frequently for efficient use of your quota.

    What is the mailbox quota?
    Every mailbox has a quote. This quota is 1 GB for students, 2 GB for administrative personnel, 2 GB for Research Assistant and 5 GB for academic personnel.

    How can I check my quota?
    When you login to your webmail account, your quota status is displayed at the top of the page.

    What happens when I reach my quota?
    Once your mailbox quota is reached, you will not be able to receive further mails. People sending e-mails to you will receive a message notifying them that your mailbox was full.

    Do I receive a warning when I am about to reach my quota?
    Yes, you will receive a warning when you've passed 85% of your quota.

    Is my e-mail account deleted if I leave the University?
    Academic personnel: If you are retiring, your account will remain active. If you are quitting your position, your account will be deleted after 3 months. 

    Administrative personnel: Your account will be deleted after 3 months of your leave from the University. 

    How can I join e-mail lists?

    The Computer Center manages 3 seperate e-mail lists for personnel;

    • "Personnel" Mail list: All personnel are subscribed to this mailing list to be notified of Public Affairs Office announcements.
    • "Instforum" Mail List: Academic personnel may join this mailing list. Those wishing to subscribe may request to do so via the Service Request System.
    • "Instructor" Mail List: The subscribers are determined every semester by the University administration.

     

    How can I create an e-mail list?

    It is possible to create mailing lists relating to project groups or organizations in the University.

    To create an e-mail list, the advisor and administrator of the project/student organization must request so via the Service Request System with a description of the purpose of the list, the list's owner, users with the privilege to send messages to the list, member e-mail accounts, and the duration through which to keep the list active.

    List Usage Policies :

    • E-mail lists must be used for the notification of scientific, social, or cultural events.
    • Advertisements and commercial content are not allowed.
    • Non-members may not send messages to these lists.

    All Bogazici University student mail accounts are subscribed to the 'students' mailing list. Public Affairs Office announcements are distributed through this list.
